Under Peter’s guidance, I was successfully admitted to Georgia Tech. Actually, before meeting Peter, I had consulted with 6 different study abroad agencies, but I ultimately chose Peter because what Peter could bring me was the most unique among all these companies. Peter is a Chinese-American who lived in Shanghai for a period during his childhood, which means he can understand what Chinese families are thinking and what they need. With his years of teaching experience in America, he can quickly identify cognitive misconceptions of Chinese families and correct them, thus getting on the right path for school selection. During my school selection period, he repeatedly reminded me and my parents not to just focus on overall rankings, but also to conduct detailed analysis of the major you want to study, and that employment is also an extremely important factor. In terms of essays, Peter is definitely a counselor who is good at discovering the voice deep in students’ hearts. I still remember when I was writing my Common App main essay, I wrote it four or five times but still couldn’t fully express what I meant. Writing too shallow would lack depth, writing too deep would feel excessive. Peter talked with me heart-to-heart at this time. Every conversation made me feel I was getting closer to what I wanted to express. During our last conversation, Peter’s question hit my pain point and made what I really wanted to express come out naturally. When revising essays, Peter could fully polish them without changing the student’s original meaning while preserving the original writing style. Once I wanted to express “coincidentally” and used the word “Serendipity,” but actually “by chance” would be better. The reason he didn’t change it was because Peter thought this was more in line with my writing style and Asian student identity. In short, what I want to say is that Peter is a very good study abroad counselor, especially suitable for students from Asia.
